Blackburn Estate, Tanzania

This coffee has a bright citrus acidity, juicy and vibrant mouthfeel, notes of grapefruit and orange, elegant and long aftertaste.

The Blackburn farm is situated on the east slope of the 3188 m high Mt. Oldeani at an altitude between 1,540m and 2,010m. Coffee is planted at an altitude between 1760 and 1950 metres.

Most coffee is grown under indigenous shade trees. Insecticides are not sprayed but spot applications against green scale are sometimes necessary. No tilling is carried out, weeds are controlled by glyphosate mulching with organic materials, coffee husk and pulp are recycled for fertilisation.

The farm organises donations for the Health and Education sector in Kataru district. In recent years projects such as a dispensary has been built outside the farm and was constructed with the help of the villagers, as well as a rain harvesting plant for the use of the village.
